6️⃣ Frequently Asked Questions.
1. Why are learners listed as “Absent” rather than “Pending Signature” at the start of the session?
At the start of a session, all registered participants appear with the status “Absent” on the attendance sheet.
According to Edusign, these registrants cannot yet be considered “Pending Signature”:
no means of signing (QR code, link, etc.) has yet been provided to them;
No sign-off has been made on the sheet yet.
The "Absent" status is therefore the default status before the sign-in process actually begins. It is then updated based on attendance records (presence, tardiness, excused absences, etc.).
2. Is it mandatory to select “Other” as the reason for an absence?
No. There is no requirement to provide a reason for an absence if it is to remain unexcused.
An unexcused absence can remain unexcused on the platform if it is relevant to your progress tracking.
The “Other” option is primarily intended for cases where the reason for absence is not included in the list provided by Edusign.
In summary :
If you have appropriate supporting documentation, select the corresponding reason from the list;
If the reason isn't listed, you can select "Other";
If the absence is to remain unexcused, do not change it to an excused absence.
For more information on managing supporting documents, please refer to the article:
3. Can a learner be left with the "Absent" status without any action from the instructor? What are the impacts?
Yes. You can leave a learner with the "Absent" status without taking any specific action.
In that case:
The absence is considered an unexcused absence: this information remains visible in the learner's Edusign history;
The absence is noted on the relevant attendance sheets.
If you have set up alerts related to unexcused absences, each such absence will contribute to the potential triggering of these alerts.
