1️⃣ Family and Category in Hyperplanning: What is it?
Families and categories are key to understanding synchronization between Edusign and Hyperplanning. These two elements enable you to control what information synchronizes with Edusign.
Families and categories are defined by a value, for instance, in the following illustration:
Several families have the values "Name", "First Name 1", "EDS_School (Family)", ... . A family = the label of column headers.
Several categories have the values "PARIS", "LYON", ... (for the family "EDS_School (Family)"). A category = the label of a 'cell' in a column.
Important: When referring to a family/category pair, it denotes the association between a column header value and a given category. For example:
Family = "EDS_School (Family)"
Category = "PARIS"
2️⃣ Identify family/category pairs to filter students for synchronization
To choose/filter students to add on an Edusign account, define and assign a family/category pair linked to each student for synchronization.
For instance, if you want to sync only a group of students, request a family called "Class Group" and sync students matching "Master 1 - Communication" category.
Good to know: If a student is not on Edusign, it's likely due to incorrect family/category pairing in Hyperplanning. This is the first thing to check.
Watch out: It is not possible to sync just one category value per Edusign account.
3️⃣ Retrieve family/category pairs to filter courses for synchronization
To choose which courses to sync on your Edusign accounts, define a family/category(ies) to include or exclude.
The family/category(ies) must relate to the courses and not the students. The system mirrors the initial screenshot, except it targets course scheduling instead of students.
For example, you might:
Choose to sync all your courses on Edusign without any specific distinction.
Choose to sync certain courses based on a specific family/category pair. For example, in a family "Course Mode", choose to sync only courses with a "Remote" category value.
Good to know: You can sync multiple categories within a single family. For instance, sync all courses where the family "Course Mode" has values "Remote" and "Exam".
4️⃣ Find families used for adding student tags
To further customize synchronization between Hyperplanning and Edusign, import categories as student Tags on Edusign.
For student Tags, use only families and categories linked to your students. For instance, automatically add the value linked to the "Classes" family shown below.
Associate multiple families to retrieve category value as a Tag. For instance, besides the "Classes" family, sync a second Tag, such as "Nationality" family.
5️⃣ Challenges you may encounter
🫧 Know the families/categories synced on your account
Family and category filters are available in every Edusign account's settings.
⚙️ Display families and categories on your Hyperplanning interface
Sometimes families linked to your students or courses don't all display, missing filtering data values.
To display more families, use the wrench on the right.
💻 Add a new family dedicated to Edusign use
The ideal setup for Edusign involves creating a family for student sync, and another for course sync. Though not always possible (admin rights on Hyperplanning needed).
For example, create an "Edusign" family and add various categories by your organization:
If using one Edusign account, category value can simply be "Yes".
If using multiple Edusign accounts, category values might relate to each campus/city ("Paris", "Lyon", ...).
