The Edusign plugin for Moodle allows you to manage attendance directly from Moodle, while synchronizing data with Edusign.
Specifically, it allows you to:
to set up your attendance tracking within your Moodle environment;
to automatically create the corresponding structure in Edusign;
to avoid duplicate entries between your LMS and Edusign.
ā
š How Moodle and Edusign Work Together
In Moodle, multiple sessions are grouped together within a single course. In Edusign, the equivalent is a " Training Course," which includes attendance sheets, learners, and instructors.
With the plugin:
A Moodle course is linked to an Edusign training program;
Each Moodle session is recorded as an attendance entry in Edusign.
ā Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have the following:
a Moodle platform with administrator access;
permissions to install plugins on your Moodle instance;
an Edusign institution account;
an Edusign API key.
Note: To obtain your API key, contact the Edusign team via chat.
āļø Install and configure the plugin
1. Download the plugin
Download the plugin's ZIP file from the released versions page on GitHub: Edusign moodle-mod_edusign.
2. Install it in Moodle
From your Moodle administrator dashboard:
Go to Site Administration.
Open the Plugins section, then select " Install Plugins."
Upload the Edusign plugin ZIP file.
Start the installation.
Confirm the Moodle database update if prompted.
3. Set Up the Connection to Edusign
If the configuration screen does not open automatically after installation, you can find it under Site Administration > Plugins > Plugin Overview > Edusign > Settings.
Next, please provide the following information:
API URL: Keep the default Edusign URL unless otherwise specified by our team;
API Key: Paste the API key from your Edusign account.
Once these settings have been saved, the plugin is ready to use in your Moodle courses. š
š Create a Moodle course linked to Edusign
1. Create Your Users in Moodle
Create or import your users from Site Administration > Users > Add a User, or via Site Administration > Users > Import Users for a bulk import.
There's no need to recreate them in Edusign: when sessions are created, learners and instructors are automatically added on the Edusign side. If they already exist, they are simply linked, without duplicates.
2. Create the course
Go to " My Courses " and create a new course.
Record the class.
Turn on Edit Mode.
Add an activity or resource and select Edusign.
3. Register participants
Open the "Course Participants " tab.
Click " Register Users."
Add your students, then your teachers.
Be sure to enter both profiles correctly: this is what allows them to be linked to the correct attendance sheets in Edusign.
4. Add sessions
From the Edusign section of your course, create your sessions:
manually, one by one;
or by importing a CSV file.
Each session is then synchronized in Edusign as an attendance sheet linked to the corresponding training course.
š What's synced
The plugin synchronizes everything needed for attendance tracking:
the connection between the Moodle course and the Edusign training;
the sessions;
enrolled students;
the instructors associated with the course.
š ļø Troubleshooting Common Issues
The plugin is connected, but I can't use the Edusign activity
If the URL API and API key have been entered correctly, check the following:
that the plugin installation was completed successfully;
that the Edusign activity has indeed been added to the course;
that your Moodle account has administrator privileges;
that the course and the participants were created in the correct order.
Some students appear in Moodle but not in Edusign (or vice versa)
Verify that the student is enrolled in the Moodle course.
Check to see if the session was created after the user registered.
Compare the Moodle activity and the Edusign attendance sheet.
Edusign emails are being sent unexpectedly
Make sure you're using the latest version of the plugin.
Please provide a specific example (including the course and user involved) and contact us.
Good practice: If you encounter data inconsistencies, always start by checking the version of the plugin installed on your Moodle.
š¤ In case of doubt, ask!
Contact the Edusign team via chat. To ensure we respond as quickly as possible, please have the following ready:
the name of your institution;
your version of Moodle and the plugin's version;
screenshots of the plugin settings and the relevant course;
a specific example (student, instructor, or session).
