Introduction - What is a D-U-N-S Number?

Before starting any deployment process of a white-label mobile application on the App Store and Play Store, obtaining a D-U-N-S number is an essential step.

A D-U-N-S (Data Universal Numbering System) number is a unique nine-digit code issued by Dun & Bradstreet (D&B) to identify businesses. This number acts as a global standard for business identification and is used by numerous organizations and platforms worldwide.

It is required by Apple to create an organizational developer account, a prerequisite for publishing white-label applications under the client's name.

Thus, it is the first crucial step in our process for launching your white-label application online.

Check if a D-U-N-S number exists

1. Identify the necessary information

Gather your organization's information:

  • Official name of the organization

  • Full address of the headquarters

  • SIREN or SIRET (optional but recommended)

  • City and postal code

2. Search in the Apple public database

  • Select the country where your organization's headquarters is located

  • Enter the entity name and city

👉 If a result appears, note the D-U-N-S number

This step requires an Apple account. You can anticipate the next steps by creating a dedicated Apple account for deployment, or use your personal account temporarily for the search.

3. If no result: search on the Dun & Bradstreet portal

  • Enter the organization/company name and country

  • Check if the entity is recognized in the database

👉 If your entity appears, click on Email and request the D-U-N-S number from Dun & Bradstreet

If despite searching Apple's and D&B's databases, you haven't found your D-U-N-S number, you can follow the procedure to create a new number. 👇

3 Bis. Request by email to Dun & Bradstreet

If you found your entity in the D&B database, you can write directly to Dun & Bradstreet depending on your country.

Example for D&B France: Send a mail to dunsfrance@dnb.com

Subject: Request for recovery of our D-U-N-S number

Hello,

We are the following entity and we believe we have a D-U-N-S number.

  • Full legal name: [CCI Hauts-de-France / University XYZ / Region ABC]

  • Headquarters address: [Street – Postal code – City]

  • SIREN/SIRET: [optional but useful]

Could you confirm our D-U-N-S number or guide us on the procedures?

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Best regards,

[Name + Position]

👉 Wait for a response from D&B (2 to 5 business days)

Create a new D-U-N-S number for your structure

To allow a member of your team to officially request a D-U-N-S number, here are the steps to follow

Prerequisites

1. Go to the official D&B support portal

2. Fill out the D-U-N-S number request form

The information to provide includes:

  • Full name of the organization

  • Complete postal address

  • Type of organization: public / private

  • Name and position of the applicant

  • Professional email address

  • Phone number

  • Purpose of request: e.g. "Requirement for a D-U-N-S identifier to create an Apple/Google developer account"

Additionally, we advise attaching:

  • Kbis extract or proof of legal existence

  • Signed explanatory letter (optional but reassuring)

You now need to wait for the number assignment, which typically takes 10 business days. You will receive your number by Email.

🔐 Practical advice to convey to your teams

  • Never use a D-U-N-S number of another entity

  • Internally document the D-U-N-S number upon receipt

  • Always use the same legal name in Apple/Google and D&B

  • Anticipate processing time to avoid delaying an application's publication
